The Council of Elders to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have issued a press statement which is signed by the chairman of the council, Hon Iddrisu, on the 26th October, 2022 following the controversies over the NDC national elections.
In the statement, the Council indicates that in this time of a crunch economy like this, the party needs proper mobilization of its members in such a way that come 2024 the general election will be a walk over to the party without any stress. This statement was made on the basis that the party general secretary, Johnson Aseidua Nketia is contesting Samuel Ampofo, the current chairman, for the chairman position.
On this note the attention of the council is been drawn on the future consequences this contest might bring to the party. This therefore warrant them to release the press statement urging all the party faithfuls to accept the contest as it is and not to bring confusion which may affect the party negatively.
This urgency is to plead the two contestants to do a peaceful campaign which at the end of the election will still bind the party together. This togetherness is necessary because the party needs to rescue mother Ghana from the mess the current NPP government has put the country into.
So the council is pleading for a peaceful campaign and election during the chairman election and all are admonished to think about the party and Ghana first before any confusion.
