Chelsea have officially qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions league after defeating RB Salzburg.
The Blues handed a first defeat in over 40 matches at the home to RB Salzburg with the scores at 2-1 at the final whistle.
Chelsea took the lead in the first half courtesy a volley strike by Mateo Kovacic. RB Salzburg replied in the second half with a quick counter attack before Kai Havertz took a sublime strike that went in off the crossbar to restore Chelsea’s lead.
After AC Milan defeated Dinamo Zagreb by 4 goals to nil, Chelsea are now top of the group with 10 points and a better head to head advantage even though they have an outstanding game to play.
The Blues will take on Dinamo Zagreb in the last match of the group stage at the Stamford Bridge next week. This could be an opportunity to use other players who are yet to enjoy enough minutes under new coach Graham Potter.
