3 Habits To Adopt To Achieve Bigger Results

Reading: I have been an avid reader all my life. Ever since I got a respite from reading scientific journals for my PhD, I have been reading on a wide variety of topics that I find interesting.

When I latch onto a subject, I usually read a couple of books on that subject back to back. Some topics I have covered in the last 6 months – financial literacy, the history of African American struggles, history of world war 2, polymer science, the Iranian revolution etc.

Reading expands my mind and vocabulary, makes me a better conversationalist and helps me learn more about the world around me.

Exercising and running: I lift weights 4 times a week and run atleast 3 times a week. My aim is not to be a body builder, but have energy to pursue my other interests. Putting in a 45 mins workout routine regularly has provided me with good health, lots of energy and brain-power to pursue other hobbies.

Even when I am traveling on business or leisure, I carry my running shoes. This habit has drastically changed my life.

Choosing friends and family carefully: You’re The Average Of The Five People You Spend The Most Time With. I spend time with friends who are challenging me and stimulating me to be better. I can’t choose my own family, but I can choose who to engage with.

I have cut out emotional responses to drama in life. This has helped me free up my mind from responding to inane emotions and invest in hobbies important to me. I can’t control other people, but I can control my own responses to them.
