‘Remember Me’ Ad Trends: “The NPP has Neglected me after doing advert for them. I’m in Danger now”

Nicholas Teye, a young man whose image was used for a billboard to promote the Nations Builders Corps (NABCO) has come out to reveal that his security was sold out for only 300 cedis, after his image was used for the billboard advertisement. The billboard is a campaign ad mounted by the governing New Patriotic Party to highlight its most enduring social programme: Free Secondary Education, otherwise known as Free SHS.

A sullen looking Junior High School girl, and other young individuals were featured in the giant billboards placed at vantage points in the nation’s capital. The eyes of the young girl beseeches the public and especially voters and an emotive plea inscriped thus, “My education depends on your vote-Remember me”.

A first glance look at the ad leaves you truly tearyeyed and emotional, and it is no wonder that the billboard has been branded as ‘Emotional on social media.

Some Reported challenges these individuals face as a result of having their faces on these billboards are as follows:

Earlier, GhanaWeb reported that Nicholas Teye (a victim) had claimed that he was only paid GH₵300 for the photos he took.

He added that his life is currently under threat because his face was splashed on the billboards without his knowledge.

Speaking to TV3 in an interview, Nicholas stated that people blame him for the current economic hardship facing Ghanaians, as they believe that he also campaigned for the governing party.

The SHS teacher stated that he has had to even disguise himself by wearing a nose mask and a cap whenever he wants to go out of his home, for fear of being noticed and attacked. “My major challenge is the threat. So, any time I have to go out, I have to put on a nose mask and sometimes a cap”.

“Sometimes, I will be in the room, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday without going out because I am afraid if I step out, I don’t know what will happen to me. The moment they see me, they get angry and want to beat me because they claim I’m part of the reasons why they are suffering. They sometimes call to threaten me”.

“As a suggestion my wife tells me to take Uber, to prevent any form of attack” he added.

However, Riverblade Intuition (the main idea behind this) also explained that it appears to be an intentional plot by one of the models, Nicholas Teye, a former beneficiary of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo), to misrepresent the facts of the matter.

He claimed that Nicholas and 31 others, most of whom were not lucky enough to have had their pictures selected, each received GH₵500 as well as transportation of GH₵50 each, summing up to about GH¢17,050.

On bird app Twitter, where the billboard trended the most, we captured some of the sentiments expressed for the campaign ad. See below:
