There has been a sharp increase in the prices of goods in the country and many people could not keep over it. Well, economic hardship is happening across the world and not only in Ghana but the fact is how goods on the market are increasing day in and out is something most people are worried about. Social media has reacted to the price of cooking oil being higher than a bag of cocoa on the market. It is alleged that the price of cooking oil is now Gh¢ 1,000 while that of cocoa is Gh¢ 800.
The concern raised has something to do with cocoa being the backbone of the nation’s economy which has not received any increment. Because most farmers are suffering on the farm trying to get farm implements such as fertilizers, and pesticides among others for their farm to increase their yield but it can be seen that no attention has been paid to them. The fertilizers and pesticides are receiving price increases.
The government should turn to the farmers in the country especially cocoa farmers to help them increase their yield in producing cocoa at a large scale to help in export to boost the economic status. Farmers are willing to produce more cocoa but lack the needed support.
