PRESEC, Legon Reach 4th Final In A Row In NSMQ As They ‘Knockout’ St. James And Kumasi High

It was an exciting contest as Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High came up against St. James Seminary and Kumasi High School in the Second semifinals of the 2022 National Science and Maths Quiz. Many expected PRESEC, Legon to have an easy finish but this wasn’t so as St. James gave fought tooth and nail to win to challenge them for the sole slot to the final. Before today’s contest, PRESEC have qualified to the finals on 10 occasions and won 6 of them. With this win, PRESEC have made it a record 11 finals.

The game started with all 3 schools missing the points at stake but with time St. James and PRESEC, Legon started making inroads. It was so tight that the first round ended with PRESEC leading by just a point. In the second round it was all about PRESEC as they started stretching the lead. It ended with Kumasi High having 7 points, St. James with 19 and PRESEC amassing 32 points.

All three schools got 0 in the third round, a round that happened to be the Problem of the Day. In round 4 and Round 5, PRESEC, Legon took the game and cleared the other two schools. At the end of the day, PRESEC won by 51 points while St. James Seminary picking 35 points and Kumasi High going home with 8 points.

With this win, PRESEC, Legon have marched on to the final. PRESEC have qualified for the last four finals of the competition; 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. They are going to meet Prempeh College, the school that beat them in the final last year. It will be interesting to see how these 2 school match up in the final. It can be recalled that in 2020 PRESEC beat Prempeh, while the latter came back to beat the former in 2021. The two sides will meet the winners of Augustine’s vs Adisadel vs Opoku Ware game.
