As the economic situation in the country continues to deteriorate, there have been several calls for changes in the handlers of the economy. The Ghanaian cedi has seen huge leap in depreciation and this has led to high cost of goods. President Akufo-Addo has been Ghanaians that all is well and insisted that all naysayers will be disgraced. Interestingly, with all these economic challenges, Akufo-Addo has insisted that he will not alter his ministers.
It can be recalled that former president, John Mahama had on several occasions called on President Akufo-Addo to organize an economic forum to bring on board experts to address the situation but none has been heeded to. Instead the government insists it has the men to revive the economy. Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo has called on the government to swallow their pride and seek help in the midst of these economic challenges.
According to Ransford Gyampo, Ken Ofori Atta did well in his first term but things have changed and he needs help more than ever. He charged President Akufo-Addo to fulfil his promise and bring changes if indeed the NPP have the men. The learned Prof. called on President Akufo-Addo to bring in Mark Assibey Yeboah and Seth Terkper if indeed he wants the economic situation to change.
Gyampo notes that these additions will make Ghanaians happy that at least the President seeks their welfare and doing everything possible to resuscitate the ailing economy. Mark Assibey was MP for the people of New Juaben South in the Sixth and Seventh Parliaments. He has served as Chairman of the Finance Committee in the 7th Parliament. Seth Terkper was a Finance Minister under the erstwhile John Mahama government.
The government has kicked against any inclusion of an NDC member in reviving the economy and it will be interesting to see if they heed to Gyampo’s call. Does the NPP still have the men to bring back the economy?
