Galamsey has become one of the most talked about evils in the country for years now. According to statistics about 13 out of the 16 regions in Ghana have traces of galamsey. Despite claims by the government that it is doing everything possible to stop the illegality not much has been achieved in the last 5 years. Instead river bodies have been destroyed. This is not even to say that monies from galamsey even goes to develop the areas but the lands are rather left in worse situations.
Afia Pokuaa, popularly called Vim Lady has attacked Hon. Kwasi Gyamfi, MP for Odotobri for failing to develop his constituency. According to Afia, while addressing the MP, she noted that this is the MP for Aisha Huang and yet despite being a law maker for over 20 years the constituency cannot even boast of 1km tarred road.
Afia posted a video on Facebook of the MP and questioned why the people in the area keep voting and yet receiving nothing in return. It is interesting that for a MP who has been in power for so long, there is nothing to account in terms of roads in his constituency. Afia in her choice of words seem to be questioning if the MP is getting his votes because his constituency is in the Ashanti Region.
The Ashanti Region residents have had reasons to question the NPP for neglecting them when it comes to roads and other developmental projects. As the giver of most votes to the party, the region wants more and yet for years not much has been seen. MPs are not responsible for constructing roads but they have the privilege to lobby in Parliament so how is it then the case that there aren’t tarred roads in Odotobri constituency?
Law makers have been criticized for years before of lack of developments in their areas. Constituents have complained that law makers always come to their constituencies to canvas for votes and yet after winning never step foot there again till another election period.
