The member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has asserted that the total crash of the Ghana cedi must be seen as a national threat.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, 20th October 2022, he wrote;
“The total crash of the Cedi must be seen as a major national security threat.
Prez Akufo-Addo should immediately suspend his regional booing tours, sack his Finance Minister, dissolve his failed EMT & convene a non-partisan emergency economic rescue forum to harvest fresh ideas.”
Background
The comments of Okudzeto comes in wake of the continues depreciation of the Ghana cedis amidst economic woes. Within this week the cedi has been on free fall. First it’s rate was 12cedis to a dollar and now its 13cedis. Social Media have even speculated that the cedi is now 15cedis to 1 dollar.
The government and their Communication team has blamed the free fall of the cedi to global economic crisis facing the world ( Russia -Ukraine war). Some Ghanaians also disagree and attribute it to poor management of the economy by the NPP.
