Social Media Users Blast Mahama Over “Insensitive” Comments On Kasoa Suicide Case

Mahama denies GH¢14m ex-gratia claims - Ghanaian Times

Former President John Dramani Mahama has reacted to the death of a young man who electrocuted himself at Kasoa.

Over the weekend a young man, identified as Kakra, ended his own life after he was electrocuted on top of an electricity transformer.

Video of the said incident went viral on social media with many Ghanaians expressing their sympathies.

Kakra was heard in the video shouting “I’m tired”, ‘”I’m tired” before ending his life after several attempts to persuade him to change his mind failed.

The Former President, who was out of the country at the time of the incident, posted on his social media platforms upon his return to sympathize with the family of the deceased and also advised Ghanaians to never commit suicide no matter the difficulties they find themselves in.

“I returned from a trip to the sad news of Kakra who electrocuted himself.

“Levels of hardship in Ghana are dire; worst in 3 decades. But suicide is never an answer. Even in the darkest night there’ll come dawn. The sun will rise again. Let’s be each other’s keeper & keep hope alive”, he wrote.

However, this comment appears to have rather incur the wrath of some Ghanaians on social media who have taken the former President on for making what they describe as an “insensitive” comment.

mǝl with twitter handle @limmthedevil, wrote “Like ebi your time electricity sef no go pass through make he electrocute. We dey watch ball masa”.

@Gen_Buhari_also wrote “When did he tell you he committed suicide because of hardship? Or did he leave a written document to confirm that? It’s funny you base on someone’s commentary to conclude, 1,500 people committed suicide in 2015 under your watch, Can we conclude it was as a result of Hardship?”

Bongo Ideas (@BongoIdeas) says “Using the death of the young man to score political points is cheap and basic. People still kill themselves even in better economies.”

“You can sympathise with the family without necessarily trying to come across as the Messiah. Everything shouldn’t be about politics!”

Kwame Gabby (@GabbyGreyy) “If you like, organize a press conference, you will never be president again. Forget it. Politically, you’re done! Just retire in peace and take care of your family”.

Mr Yussif C Murder (@yussif505) also had this to say “Mr President with the greatest of respect to you STOP this. We survived under your leadership the unprecedented power outages this nation has ever seen in our country’s history. The world will surely come out of this.”
