Galamsey has gradually emerged as the most talked about activity. President Akufo-Addo on his assumption of office promised to put his presidency on the line to curb galamsey. Sadly, after 5 years, the country can be said to have gone worse from how it was in 2017. The President has launched a number of raids on galamsey sites and yet the fight is gradually being lost.
Well over the past few weeks President Akufo-Addo has met some chiefs and also MMDCEs over how to tackle the issue of galamsey. In a meeting with the Asantehene on Sunday, the President again reiterated his desire to stop galamsey before leaving office. Many have criticized the President for failing to deal with his own appointees who are involved in galamsey.
Well, news coming in from EIB Network, managers of GHOne and Starr FM has it that a regional minister has collapsed after his share of galamsey money was bolted away with by his driver. Though the information gathered so far is scanty the news portal hopes to drop more details soon. Many are however reacting to this piece of information. Many have applauded the driver for performing such a stunt on his boss.
Some also say the driver should never come back to the country. In Ghana it is on record that 13 out of 16 regions are engaged in galamsey. Despite the government putting in millions of cedis to fight illegal mining, nothing concrete has so far been achieved. With economic conditions in the country tumbling, many people are forced to render their services in galamsey areas hoping that they will make ends meet.
Which regional minister looks likely if these rumors are indeed true? Can Akufo-Addo indeed end galamsey before his tenure runs out? Check out some Ghanaians are reacting to this incident.
