President Akufo-Addo’s posturing in his public engagement has exposed his negative feelings towards the region and Asanteman.
This is according to a leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Joseph Yammin.
“Any time a President comes to town he is briefed on happenings before he moves to meet the people and I know that same was done for Nana Addo.
“Nana Addo has made the week so bad by insulting the people of Ashanti region.
“I don’t know why the NPP will bring Nana Addo to Kumasi in these difficult times, just for him to come and insult us and go, I am very worried.
“He started insulting the chiefs at Manhyia palace, went to the commission of the konongo hospital, insulted the people there and yesterday he did same” he said.
Mr Yammin made these remarks on Kumasi-based Ultimate FM on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 in response to some comments made by President Akufo-Addo during his engagement with the chiefs and people of the Ashanti Region as part of his 4-day working visit.
Some residents of Kwabre have threatened to vote out the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) if they fail to construct their town roads.
Reacting to this on Kumasi-based Otec FM, President Akufo-Addo said he is unfazed by such threats, adding that the Kwabre residents can go ahead and vote for the opposition NDC.
He says President Akufo-Addo while seeking the mandate of the people in 2016 spoke to them in a humble and sober manner, but now that he has been handed the reign of government he is speaking to them in a disrespectful manner.
“In 2016 he was sober, but today he is telling Ashanti’ he is done with them and that he can speak anyhow to them because he does not need them again”
Mr Yammin further made the following statement during his radio interview.
“He was coached by the NPP; he won’t say what he said if the people disagree with him”
“But did you see his body language and how he spoke when he was at Manhyia, how do you tell people that they are blind and can’t see the development the NPP has done? You don’t speak that way, he only came here to insult us.
“In any case, should it take Nana Addo, who is not living with us here to come from Accra and tell us what he has done?
“Why can’t we feel or see it, if indeed he has done something. This government has failed, they need to admit it, that is all, these insults won’t help matters’’, he said
