The Ghana Education Service (GES) has received a message from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) that senior high schools must return to the Trimester System by 2023.
The assistant general secretary of the Easter Regional CHASS branch made it plain that lecturers in the free senior high schools are suffering as a result of the semester system used by the schools on Saturday, October 15, 2022, during a meeting in the Eastern Region, Koforidua.
In order to reduce the pressure on the teachers, he continued, the government must urgently take the required steps to change the senior high schools back to the trimester system.
He continued by saying that these teachers are required to work throughout the year without a break and do not receive any bonuses to top up their inadequate salaries. Since they do not have enough time to spend with their families, this is leading to emotional trauma and family mismanagement in the majority of staff members.
As a result, the Ghana Education Service was urged by the Eastern Regional CHASS branch, working with the other regions, to take the necessary actions as quickly as possible in order to prevent further problems from the schools.
Because of their stress, most teachers struggled to communicate with the students in a way that they could comprehend, which is quite concerning and could compromise the quality of education in the near future.
