More Days To Be Spent In School As SHS Will Soon Expand To Six Years

The Second Cycle Institution, often known as Senior High Schools (SHS), will soon be extended from three to six years, according to Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education.

The Education Minister stated that this extension will allow students to be well-prepared before their final exams while speaking at the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, CHASS, 60th Anniversary celebration on Thursday, October 13, 2022.

He claimed that the SHS model used in Ghana today was adapted from westerners, who had access to amenities like a science lab and a library that were lacking in this nation.

Furthermore, according to Dr. Osei Adutwum, the expansion will be accomplished by changing the Pre-Tertiary Education Act, which specifies that the Junior High School is included in Ghana’s Basic E.

He continued by saying that the expansion will aid in modernizing Ghana’s elementary education in order to build a globally competitive educational system.
