The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the NPP are doing everything possible to stop galamsey activities in the country. However, some Ghanaians have made up their mind that they will never stop this illegal mining activity. Some politicians and foreigners are indeed playing a major role in illegal mining activities in the country but they are having their support from the inhabitants of the place.
Some young Ghanaian men have recorded themselves doing galamsey activities and many Ghanaians after coming across this video couldn’t keep mute over it. According to them, there is no way that President Akufo-Addo can stop galamsey activities. This is because if he adopts a strategy to stop them during the day, they will also adopt another strategy to work at night.
They also stated that it is not every mining location that President Akufo-Addo and his associate know. Even if they seize their machines, they will use their bare hands to work. If you watch the video they posted on social media, you can see that an excavator is busily digging the land, and two young men using water from a river source to watch this sand.
The young men were overheard in the video saying this in the typical Twi language, “President Akufo-Addo, look at us now, we are working at night. It is almost getting to morning but we are still working. You can’t stop galamsey because it is not every place you know. Galamsey is our only livelihood, if you seize our machines, we will use our bare hands to work. With this work, we can pay ourselves GH¢500.00 a day. What work can you do in Ghana as a youth for you get GH¢500.00 a day and GH¢15,000 a month?”.
