Galamsey continues to be a huge problem for Ghana. This is because most of the illegal mining sites belong to politicians who use military men to guard the place. A huge crowd of people has been recorded on camera doing galamsey at a site and many social media users after coming across this video couldn’t keep quiet over it. If you watch the video carefully, you can see women, men, and children busily digging a huge land for gold.
The women and children were seen with pans while the men were seen with shovels and pick axe. The people who were at this galamsey site were over two hundred. The person who recorded the video was overheard saying this in the typical Twi language, “It is seriously going on. Women, men, and children doing galamsey to survive. This is an indication that severe hunger is in this country”.
Some Ghanaians after coming across this video said that the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is to be blamed for this. He promised Ghanaians that he will put his presidency on the line to fight galamsey but look at what is happening. Others said that they blame the economic hardship for this rise in galamsey activities; many Ghanaians are hungry and they find this job lucrative.
