The 2022 National Science and Maths Quiz is currently ongoing. Many eyes are on big wigs like PRESEC, Legon, Prempeh, Augustine’s, Opoku Ware and others to do well. For some years now the competition has attracted d a lot of attention as a result of the prizes, publicity and jealousy attached to the various contests.
Today’s one-eight contest saw Mfantsipim come up against Presby SHS in Suhum and Techiman SHs. For some years now Mfantsipim haven’t been convincing and many doubt if they can go all the way to the top. Though this contest was expected to be an easy win for the Botwe Boys, they had to survive a late scare to win the contest.
The game started with Presby SHS showing that they didn’t come to play. They dominated the first 2 rounds of the competition with Mfantsipim placing second in both rounds. Round 3 saw the problem of the day but no school was able to take advantage as all 3 schools only picked 2 points out of the possible 10 points. Mfantsipim picked up the pace as for the first time they came to the top with Round 4 ending at 33 and 32 points for Mfantsipim and Presby SHS respectively.
The final round was a winner takes all as Presby SHS took the game to the Botwe Boys. With the questions running out, the boys from Mfantsipim put in their all and took out their closest rivals. The game ended with Mfantsipim at 39, Presby SHS 38 and Techiman SHS at 27. Indeed, it was a tight competition.
Mfantsipim might have qualified for the quarter finals but their performance wasn’t convincing. They struggled in many parts of the contest and it took just a point to separate them from Suhum Presby, who might have been disappointed because they nearly had the finish line in their sight.
