Hearts Beat AS Real Bamako But Fail to Qualify in Africa

Accra Hearts of Oak through Caleb Amankwa scored 1-0 on the 89th minute against Real Bamako in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Phobians had suffered a 3-0 loss against the Malian club in the first leg in Bamako last week with the reverse played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup after coming from two goals down to beat Bechem United 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the MTN FA Cup.

The Phobians returned to the competition they won in 2004 after playing last two seasons but failed to progress to the next stage of the competition.

They equally failed to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Champions League last two seasons after winning the Ghana Premier League.

The Phobians conceded 10 goals and scored only two in the CAF Champions League under the then coach, Samuel Boadu.

The club decided to part ways with coach Samuel Boadu following a poor start to the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.

The Phobians picked just two points from their first three opening games of the league season under the then coach, Samuel Boadu.

Hearts of Oak have thus failed to qualify for the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup on two occasions after the entire aggregate ended 3-1 in favour of the Malian club.
