Former Deputy Minister for Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu says Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta would have been booted out of office for mismanaging the economy if Ghana were a serious country like the United Kingdom.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu said this in reaction to the ousting of the Chancellor of the United Kingdom (UK), Kwasi Kwarteng.
News emerged today, Friday, October 14, 2022 that Kwasi Kwarteng is no longer Chancellor after meeting Prime Minister Liz Truss at Downing Street, the BBC has reported.
This makes Mr Kwarteng the second shortest-serving UK chancellor on record after Iain Macleod, who died of a heart attack 30 days after taking the job in 1970.
Reacting to this new on Twitter, Mr Kwakye Ofosu says the UK has shown that it is a serious country which do not countenance incompetence.
“In a serious country, one of these two men has just been dismissed for policies that have wrecked their economy.
“In ours the other remains at post and benefits personally from every cedi he borrows in our name, which borrowing has led to the collapse of our economy and currency’, he tweeted.
Ghana is currently facing an economic crisis amid rising cost of living, rapid fall of the Ghanaian cedi to the major foreign currencies.
Government is currently negotiating with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to secure a $3 billion dollars bailout to help restore the economy.
Many finance experts members of the opposition NDC have asked for the sacking of Mr Ofori-Atta, but their calls have been rejected by President Akufo-Addo, who says he is satisfied with his performance as Finance Minister.
