NPP Members Involved In Galamsay Are Making The Fight Difficult – Titus Glover

Former Member of Parliament for Tema East, Titus Nii Kwartei Glover has accused some members of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP),  for thwarting the government’s effort to end illegal mining, also known as galamsay. In Ghana.

According to him the fight against galamsay has become difficult for the Government because some members of the NPP are involved in it.

“Our own NPP people involved in the illegal mining business have made the fight against galamsay difficult. It’s a fact that they are engaged galamsay. 

Mr Glover made these remarks while contributing to discussions on the illegal menace in the country on Accra-based Adom TV.

He says he does not understand why soldiers have to move all the way from Accra to the bushes to chase and arrest illegal miners when they are Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who are head of security at the local level.

The issue of illegal mining has become topical in recent time in the Ghanaian media following the release of images and videos showing how Ghana’s water bodies are being destroyed by activities of illegal miners.

President Akufo-Addo renewed efforts to curb the illegal mining by engaging members of the National House of Chiefs and pleading with them to assist the government win the war against the menace.
