The Oldest Senior High School In Ashanti Region, Celebrates It’s 85th Anniversary Today

The oldest Senior High School in Ashanti Region, Osei Kyeretwie Secondary (OKESS) is 85 years. As part of it’s celebrations, today is the climax of its anniversary. 

OKESS is the first secondary school in the Asante Region, having been established in 1937. The school was was named after the 14th King of Asante, Otumfuo Prempeh II whose maiden name is Osei Kyeretwie. 

In 1970, OKESS relocated from Dekyemso to its present Tafo site, through the efforts of the Asantehene and Tafohene. In between 1970 and 2004 , the school operated two campuses viz Tafo and Dichemso. Finally in 2004 the entire school was moved to Tafo.

Notable Alumni

Zuta Mary Nartey was a javelin thrower for Ghana who represented Ghana on the international front.

The late Bernard Nyarko popularly known as Bishop Bernard Nyarko who was an actor, comedian and preacher also went to OKESS

Georgina Opoku Amankwah, lawyer and former deputy Chairperson Electoral Commission of Ghana.

Nkansah Dwamenah.
