A Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Professor Joseph Tufuor Kwarteng has expressed his disappointments in President Akufo-Addo’s leadership and handling of affairs in the country.
He says prior to assuming the high office of the land, President Akufo-Addo was seen as a no nonsense man who will not accept wrongdoings in his administration.
This, he however says, has been proven otherwise considering how the President keeps praising and shielding his corrupt and non-performing appointees.
Reacting to President Akufo-Addo’s meeting with the National House of Chiefs at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, Professor Tuffour says Ghanaians are fed up with the talks on the issue of illegal mining in the country.
What Ghanaians are now interested in, he says, is action which will result in the sacking of appointees under whose supervision illegal mining continues to destroy the country’s water bodies and forest reserves.
Professor Tuffour further made the following remarks while speaking on Accra-based Okay FM on Thursday, October 6, 2022.
“What I expected from the President while he met with the National House of Chiefs and MMDCEs was that he would have sacked some of his appointees who are especially in the areas where illegal mining is taking place because they have failed.
“That is when we would have known that the President is committed to the fight against galamsey.
“But when he is always talking without any form of punishment, people will not take him seriously because they know that they will continue to enjoy their position regardless of their failure.
“People are saying that the Akufo-Addo we know 20 years ago is not the same Akufo-Addo we know now.
“When Nana wasn’t in power we thought when he came he would be like Magufuli but we don’t see that so people are engaging in all kinds of things and go away without being punished. It’s high time the President cracked the whip”, he said.
