Erastus Asare Donkor Takes the Fight against Galamsey to the Real Battlefield

Conversations about a lurking havoc to hit the geographical boundaries of Ghana and other countries, resulting from “Galamsey” are widely abound. Deep concerns have been expressed about the extent of the destruction illegal miners are causing to our natural environment.

Those who matter in the scheme of affairs have been pointing accusing fingers at one another as having to be blamed for the difficulty to contain the situation.

The Asantehene has been emphatic about the lack of jurisdictional authority on the part of the Chieftaincy Institution over the administration and regulation of the Natural Resource Exploitation in the Country.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also at some point in his administration been firm on his resolve to end the galamsey menace in Ghana. Not so much have been achieved by the President in his pursuit.

The extent and degree of damage caused to our land and waterbodies makes one question whether it is even rational for surface mining to be given a legitimate backing.

Almost all of our river bodies closer to these galamsey sites have all turned milky brown and also been contaminated with lethal substances which threaten human existence.

Government officials and party big guns have been accused of being behind most of the galamsey activities in Ghana. The traditional authorities have not been left out of the blame game. This situation has however worsened in present time.

Erastus Asare Donkor, a news reporter with Luv FM in Kumasi, a subsidiary of Multimedia Group has made a daring move to expose the menace of illegal mining in Ghana.

In an investigative documentary, the journalist showed the devastating wreck galamsey activities have caused to our lands and river bodies. Samples of water collected from the various water bodies along these mining sites.

This piece has received commendations by many Ghanaians who has taken to social media to applaud Mr Erastus Asare Donkor.
