Sim Cards Are Not Blocked ? Stubborn Academy Defeats Ursula Owusu.

The sim card re-registration has been a thorn in many people’s heads. As it has been characterized by long queues and stress. A prerequisite for this sim card registration is the Ghana card which has generated a lot of talk all over the country. The National Identification Authority (NIA) has not been able to issue the required number of Ghana cards to facilitate the process of registration. Over 12 million sim cards have not yet been registered and this has been partly attributed to some people not having their Ghana cards yet and partly akin to persons who are being stubborn to register.

The cause of the initiation of this sim registration is to curb fraudulent activities. Some fraudulent persons parade themselves as agents of the various telecommunications networks and try to outsmart patrons and hence steal from them. To curb these activities, the Ministry of Communications has identified the use of a Ghana card for a sim card registration to be very viable since it has thumb and face recognition and every individual and will easily facilitate the process of identifying such culprits.

This process started some time ago and every Ghanaian is expected to comply with the registration. Several deadlines have been issued out by the Communications Minister, Madam Ursula Owusu. The latest deadline was slated for yesterday 30th. September 2022. This means effective today the 1st of October those who have not registered their sim cards will as they were not able to access phone calls or even internet connections.

Several lawsuits have been filed against the Minister by Civil Rights Organizations and some Members of Parliament have been championing a campaign in the interest of Ghanaians who have genuine reasons for not being able to register. Sam George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and a member of the communications committee of Parliament has done enormously well to that effect.

Stubborn Academy members have been jubilating on Twitter because their sim cards have not been blocked yet. Some have described Madam Ursula Owusu’s behavior as grandstanding and arrogant. She has been described by Twitter folks as a barking dog. What are your thoughts about the Communications Minister? Has the deadline remained indefinite? Leave your thoughts and comments below.
