National Democratic Congress (NDC) activist, Dzifa Gunu has accused the Akufo-Addo-led government for placing high import duties on Sanitary pads despite the fact that John Mahama tried to get it free for school girls.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on on Tuesday, 27th April 2022, he wrote;
“The government of John Dramani Mahama was negotiating with the World Bank to give Ghana a facility to distribute free sanitary pads to girls in secondary schools, the move was part of a wider program to ensure that secondary school girls do not miss school during their monthly menstruation. “
It was noted then that, a lot of the girls normally miss school when having their monthly menstrual flow because they could not afford the sanitary pads. He revealed.
He accused that, the NPP then raised hell over the move, they polluted the minds of Ghanaians with the propaganda that H.E. John Dramani Mahama wanted to harvest the blood of the girls for rituals.
“It scared people and government eventually buckled on the move.Today see where we are, the import duties alone on sanitary pads is killing importers so they are left with no choice than to pass it on to the already impoverished girl child.” Dzifa added
