Ex-gratia: Mahama can’t survey article 71; he had the open door as president previously — Osei Kyei

The Larger part Pioneer in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has expressed the Public Majority rule Congress (NDC) flagbearer for the 2020 races John Dramani Mahama’s guarantee to survey a few arrangements of Article 71 in the 1992 constitution is only a political trick.

He expressed that previous President Mahama had

each valuable chance to revoke Article 71 as

President yet neglected to do as such.

“I’m shocked to hear from no one else than somebody who has once been a President going for a mandate just on Article 71 remittances knowing very well it’s unthinkable”, he said.

Talking on Kumasi-based radio OTEC FM’s morning program facilitated by Skipper Koda on Monday September 9,2022, the Larger part Pioneer who serves as the Clergyman for Parliamentary Undertakings addressed why Mr Mahama didn’t audit the law during his residency as President, blaming him for neglecting to carry out the proposals of the Constitution Survey Commission in 2012.

“What previous President Mahama is talking about today can’t be treated in a serious way since he has proactively bombed Ghanaians on this,” he said.

Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu demanded that previous President John Mahama can only with significant effort audit payments for political office holders under Article 71 of the 1992 Constitution.

He said albeit the Sacred Audit

Commission (CRC) can propose the change, Parliament could require around a half year to consider on it prior to sending permitting Ghanaians to choose in a mandate.

He unveiled the Parliamentary Undertakings

Panel had begun a discussion on it beginning around 2019 and a group had been laid out for conferences to push the plan ahead for its all out revision.

Mr Mahama reignited the discussion on Article 71 subsequent to expressing that administration just paid him

GH¢230,000 as compensation overdue debts. He denies getting GH$14 million as ex gratia guaranteed by NPP’s Abronye DC.

He further vowed to audit Article 71 if the Public Popularity based Congress (NDC) comes to drive.

Mr Mahama said “The main installment that was made to me by government, Bookkeeper General, was my compensation overdue debts of 230,000 cedis in 2013. I will show it [bank statement] to you first, and later on the off chance that you need we can call a gathering of you writers. Obviously, I would rather not distribute my bank explanation, yet I can put it before you and you can glance through every one of the installments and check whether there is a 14 million cedis installment. I got no such installment.”
