NPP Director of Communication Fails To Prove On Live TV That Gov’t Pay For Mahama’s Entitlements (VIDEO)

NPP appoints Richard Ahiagbah as Director of Communications | 3News.com

Former President Mahama, in an exclusive interview with TV3 disclosed that the ruling Government has refused to honour some of the perks he is entitled to as a former Head of State of Ghana. H

He said entitlements such as an office space, payment of his domestic staff, and utility bills among others have not been provided to him as the constitution dictates by the ruling government.

The former President says he pays for all those from his own pocket, adding that he has received no ex-gratia from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government since leaving office in 2016.

“I pay the electricity bill for my house and my office, and I pay the water bills for my house and my office. I live in my own accommodation so the state does not pay me anything for accommodation. They haven’t given me an office so I rent an office at East Cantonment and I pay the rent myself.

“I pay my own fuel, the state doesn’t give me fuel, I pay my own domestic staff, I pay my own medical bills, I pay my own air tickets when I travel,” he said.

Since making this statement government spokespersons and assignees have, in an attempt to ‘expose’, the former president released official documents purportedly showing that the State has been paying for all the expenses Mr Mahama spoke of.

However, aides to the former President have rebutted those statements, asserting Mr Mahama made specific claims and the government should rather focus on answering and disproving same.

On Thursday’s edition of Metro TV’s ‘Good Morning Ghana’ show, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party Mr Richard Ahiagba insisted that the government takes care of the entitlements the former president spoke of.

This then led to the host of the show, Dr Randy Abbey challenging him to provide official documents to disprove and answer  the former president’s claims.

But Mr Ahiagba failed to do so with the excuse that he does not have the proof readily available on set and that he will furnish the host with same at a later date.

This was after he had said earlier on the show that he had the proof on his mobile phone.

“The difficulty with this conversation is that I cannot share evidence openly, but I have the evidence I can show that to you, but the point is you cannot circulate that”, he said to deflate the pressure on him to prove his claims.
