Aisha Huang, a Chinese national who has become the center of the fight against galamsey will reappear before court today. The woman popularly called the galamsey queen became a center for conversation after she was repatriated few years ago. Aisha has resurfaced and this has brought back the conversation of how she managed to sneak back into the country. According to President Akufo-Addo he was ready to throw his support behind the Attorney general to get Aisha punished if she is found guilty.
On TV3’s The Big Issue today, Wednesday, September 14, 2022, Titus Glover, former Deputy Minister for Transport mentioned that he has information about the flight details that led to Aisha’s repatriation. He wasn’t however clear if it was a deportation or repatriation. He noted that President Akufo-Addo is bent on fighting galamsey and is focused contrary to doubts from the opposition NDC. He stated that the President will make sure that Aisha is prosecuted if she is guilty.
Interestingly, Titus, former MP for Tema East said that the NDC under John Mahama arrested Aisha Huang on 3 different occasions and still allowed her to go away. He concluded that the NDC were not the best crop of people to advise them when it comes to Aisha Huang.
George Opare Addo however refused to accept the comment that the NDC arrested Aisha and freed her on 3 separate occasions. George Opare Addo, the NDC National Youth Organizer opined that the president is confused and cannot be trusted with the security of the country especially since he cannot tell what happened to Aisha. George called for evidence to show that the NDC rearrested and freed Aisha. He questioned if Titus has evidence and charged him to present the evidence that John Mahama failed to prosecute Aisha on 3 different occasions.
All eyes will be on the court proceedings as Aisha faces trial today. Many are pessimistic and believe Aisha is too connected to be jailed. Interesting times ahead. Did the NDC under John Mahama really fail to prosecute Aisha when they had the chance?
