The issue of galamsey has emerged again as one of the most talked about topics in the country. The Akufo-Addo government has waged a number of raids to curb the illegality but so far nothing new has come from these measures. After assuming office, President Akufo-Addo mentioned that he was ready to put his presidency on the line to stop galamsey. Years on and many feel these were just mere words.
President Akufo-Addo reacted to Aisha Huang’s latest arrest yesterday while speaking at the Annual Ghana Bar Association Conference. He noted that he will give his support to the Attorney General and get Aisha punished if she is found guilty. Today in another interview on radio in the Volta Region as he tours the area President Akufo-Addo has made another interesting comment.
According to Akufo-Addo he cannot tell if Aisha Huang was deported or whether she fled from the country. This is puzzling because as the head of state he gives the green light before anything happens. This is the case where the Senior Minister mentioned that fro diplomatic reasons Aisha was to be deported. Many Ghanaians came to believe that she had been deported so for the president to say otherwise makes the whole case murky.
