Stop Engaging In Public Relations For The Judiciary – Manasseh Azure Tell Gov’t

Tweets with replies by Manasseh Azure Awuni (@Manasseh_Azure) / Twitter

Investigative Journalist Manasseh Awuni Azure has cautioned the Executive Arm of Government to desist from speaking for the Judiciary on matters involving them.

Mr Azure said this in response to recent criticism of former President John Dramani Mahama over some comments he made against Ghana’s judiciary.

The investigative Journalist says the government’s penchant for always coming out to defend and criticize persons who speak against judges and how they dispense justice does not augur well for the image of the judiciary.

In a tweet, Mr Azure says “The executive should not be actively engaged in PR for the judiciary. It doesn’t look good for the image of the judiciary’.

On August 29 this year, former President Mr Mahama accused the judiciary of being politically biased, with their image badly battered beyond repair by the current Chief Justice, Anim Yeboah.

The former President, while speaking at the 2nd Annual Lawyers Conference of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), says that it will take a new Chief Justice to repair the broken image of the Judiciary.

However, The Executive Arm of Government, led by President Akufo-Addo, has not taken the former president’s criticism of the judiciary lightly at all.

President AKufo-Addo while speaking at the Bar Conference held by the Ghana Bar Association in Ho, in the Volta Region, rebuked the former president for taking on the judiciary.

He says true democrats do not spend the time and energy undermining democratic institutions, they rather, he added, channel their effort towards strengthening them.

The President says the criticism of the court will not deter the judiciary from carrying out their mandate in accordance with the dictates of the Ghanaian constitution.
