Godfred Dame, the Attorney General today, Monday, September 12, 2022 hit hard at John Mahama for certain comments he made at the Judiciary. John Mahama has been making various comments regarding the IMF’s decision to assist Ghana, Judiciary under Justice Anin Yeboah and the supposed bad governance under President Akufo-Addo. The former president takes opportunity of every chance to express his grievances against the incumbent government.
John Mahama took a swipe at the Chief Justice for a number of judicial losses that the NDC have suffered recently. According to John Mahama this is deliberate and the only way to repair the loss of confidence in the Judiciary is the appointment of a new Judiciary. John Mahama also talked about the scrapping of ex-gratia for Article 71 holders.
While addressing lawyers at the Ghana Bar Association Annual Conference in Ho, Godfred Dame after lambasting John Mahama mentioned that despite his disagreements with John, he must admit that the decision of John to review ex-gratia was commendable. He explained that the former President’s comments on constitutional reforms especially on Article 71 holders was commendable.
Godfred Dame said even though John Mahama has enjoyed these emoluments of Article 71 for over 20 years, he feels the former President has a point in asking for a review of those entitlements. He agreed with John Mahama and said a review will be discussed regarding what should happen with respect to that discussion.
