Krobea Kwabena Asante, aide to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reacted to the recent statement made by Former President John Dramani Mahama about how he was able to deport almost 5,000 Chinese from Ghana when he was president.
Reacting to this statement from the former president, Krobea Kwabena Asante dropped some documents from the Ghana Immigration Service to prove John Mahama wrong. According to him, the total number of foreign persons deported from Ghana to their various countries in John Mahama’s time was 2,376.
He explained as follows;
In 2012, a number of 243 foreign nationals were deported from the country.
In 2013, a total of 1,065 persons were deported from Ghana. This number includes 713 Chinese persons.
In 2014, 511 foreign nationals were deported from the country.
In 2015, a total of 427 persons were either deported or repatriated from Ghana.
In 2016, a total of 130 foreign nationals were also deported or repatriated.
Krobea Kwabena Asante added that the total number of persons deported or repatriated from Ghana from 2012 to 2016 sum up to 2,376. According to him, John Mahama’s figure of deporting 5,000 Chinese illegal miners in his tenure of office is wrong.
“So the total will be 2376 other nationals deported from Ghana. Where did John Dramani Mahama get his figure from that he deported about 5000 Chinese when the total number of people we deported from Ghana from other countries between 2012 – 2016 was 2376” he said.
