Godfred Dame, the Attorney General today, Monday, September 12, 2022 hit hard at John Mahama for certain comments he made at the Judiciary. John Mahama has been making various comments regarding Judiciary under Justice Anin Yeboah and the supposed bad governance under President Akufo-Addo. He cited a number of unanimous decisions of the Judiciary and said they are compromised.
It can be recalled that weeks ago during a meeting with NDC lawyers, John Mahama mentioned that Ghana needs a new Chief Justice because the current one has destroyed the reputation of the Judiciary. According to Godfred Dame it was unfortunate that a former president will make such comments. John Mahama in an exclusive interview with Alfred Ocansey has given a bold response. According to him he spoke about the ills of the Judiciary and meant no harm.
John Mahama questioned if his position as former president prevented him form contributing to discussions. He noted that no one can stop him from talking or speaking on national issues. He called for Godfred Dame to refrain from comments that allude to taking away his right to speak. John Mahama called for a national discussion on the behavior of the Judiciary’s recent unanimous verdicts.
“So because I am a former president I can’t talk? No I will not allow him to take that right away from me. Just because I spoke about certain things he feels he has the right to say I was imprudent?” John Mahama said.
John Mahama is not the only one to have voiced out his grievances when it comes to the Judiciary. There have been concerns that with the way recent judgements are going it will fuel rumors that the Judiciary have been compromised. Even the Security Minister, Kan Dapaah also added his voice and called on the Judiciary to be no partisan so Ghanaians have more confidence in them.
