“You Can Go To Hell” – Sammy Gyamfi Tells Godfred Dame As He Takes Him On For Criticizing Mahama

Profile of Sammy Gyamfi

National Communication Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has taken a swipe at Attorney General and Minister of Justice Godfred Yeboah Dame over his response to former President Mahama’s criticism of Ghana’s Judiciary.

Mr Gyamfi says Mr Mahama’s view on the eroding public confidence in the country’s Judiciary is a known fact shared by many objective minds.

According to the NDC’s Communications Officer, Mr Mahama’s comment has been corroborated by several civil society groups and the National Security Minister, who recently had cause to caution the judiciary about the security threat the lack of confidence in their judgements poses to the country.

“Objective minds know that @JDMahama’s view on dampened public confidence in the judiciary is a fact. The latest CDD-Afrobarometer report bears this fact out. The Minister of national security has publicly buttressed same and cautioned the judiciary accordingly”, he said in a tweet.

Background

On August 29 this year, Mr Mahama while speaking at the 2nd Annual Lawyers Conference of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) launched a scathing attack on the judiciary, accusing them of being politically biassed.

He says the image of the country’s judiciary has badly been deteriorated even to the point where citizens now no longer trust the courts with some subjecting them to public mockery and opprobrium

“The phrase go to court is these days are met with derisive laughter instead hope that one will truly get justice if he went to the court.

“If people are not poking fun about politics and inducements being used to sway the hand of justice in the lower courts then it is poking fun at and making statements about the 7-0 of the unanimous FC in verdicts which mostly involves cases of a political nature in our Supreme Court. This is an unfortunate but serious development’, he said.

However, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, at an event organised by the Ghana Bar Association, responded to the former President’s statement on the judiciary.

Mr Dame described the former president’s attack on the judiciary as unwarranted and an embarrassment.

#DameCanGoToHell.

But Mr Gyamfi, in a sharp rebuttal, says ‘ Minister for injustice, Godfred Dame was the reading type, he would have known that his government’s own national security strategy document confirms the fact that public confidence in the judiciary is at an all time low. @JDMahama spoke the gospel truth”.

Mr Gyamfi and his NDC social media activist are, therefore, on twitter saying #DameCanGoToHell.
