The founder and leader of the United Progressive Party, Akwasi Addai Odike is trending once again on social media after sitting on television to render an apology to His majesty, Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II.
His apology that has since gone viral has received a lot of backlashes from the people of Asante kingdom who are well vest with the traditions of the asantes.
According to section of social media users, in a typical Asante settings, the apology is invalid because it is a sign of disrespect to his majesty Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II.
“How does an Asante sit on Television and render an Apology to the Occupant of the Golden Stool ? Doesn’t he know his Tradition?” An Asante man queried.
According to tradition, Odike is supposed to walk to the Manhyia palace and kneel before the king and render unqualified apology and pray he is forgiven. Contrary to that, he sat on a television station to make his apology.
His apology is in effect with anything he might have said against the king which caused his banishment from the Ashanti Region.
