Ghana champions Asante Kotoko earned an important 1-0 away win over RC Kadiogo of Burkina Faso in their preliminary round first leg game played this afternoon.
The game was played at the General Mathieu Kerekou Stadium in Cotonou, Benin with Kotoko, dominating the play and, should have scored more.
Forward, Isaac Oppong, scored the lone goal of the game deep into injury time as the encounter was heading to a draw to see Kotoko through with the win.
The star boy, born in Sunyani, stood up when Kotoko needed him most as his deflected effort late in the game, earned them the win.
Kotoko, will go into the second leg tie in Kumasi this Sunday in high hopes to securing qualification to the next stage of the competition after this win.
Sunday’s encounter, will be played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and, Asante Kotoko will hope to clinch another victory to climax the spirited performance they put up in today’s fixture.
The team is expected to return to Ghana on Tuesday to prepare for the game in Kumasi on Sunday as they aim to make it to the group stage of the competition at least.
The record Ghana champions are hoping to win this competition for the first time since 1983, and with this performance, they look good on this charge.
