Richard Kumadoe, a fraud and security specialist, has urged Dr. Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to launch a thorough probe into the recent state of security in the Ada West Districts.
His request follows a recent attack on residents of Kablevu and the ongoing fighting that has occurred there since the government granted access to the Song or Lagoon to the commercial salt mining , Electrochem Ghana Limited.
Mr. Kumadoe has denounced the events that have been occurring in several communities in the Ada West Districts and has urged the IGP to launch an immediate investigation.
He criticized the enclave’s professional policing strategy, saying it had led to a decline in public confidence in the district police.
Speaking to Radio Ada about the recent fighting that took place in Kablevu on September 8, 2022, Mr. Kumadoe blamed the district’s bloodshed on the leasing of the Songor Lagoon.
He further urged the media to assist the public by concentrating their editorial lenses on events taking place in the neighborhood.
The lagoon was leased by the Ghanaian government to Electrochem Ghana Ltd., a component of the McDan Group of Businesses run by entrepreneur Daniel McSorley, in November 2020.
Communities near the resource have since protested the privatization of the entire resource, organized several protests to voice their displeasure, and urged the government to stick with the resource’s original master plan, which was created some years ago with the help of the communities.
The communities are concerned about losing their main source of income and resources to a private .
This is due to the San Juan Lagoon’s long history as the district’s primary source of income for its residents. The resource that also acts as a deity is revered by the inhabitants of Ada (Yomo).
They also worry that the firm will take their lands and gods, which has increased animosity between the communities and the workers of the private and resulted in numerous fights and bloodshed.
