The leadership of the Asogli State headed by the venerable Togbe Afede is reported to have turned down gifts from the Assin Central Member of Parliament yesterday before the celebration of the Yam festival popularly known as “Te Za” in the local parlance.
As customs and traditions demand, the festival is to be celebrated annually and the indigenous of the area and people from all walks of life, come together to mark this special event.
The Presidential aspirant who stormed the palace in Ho with his gift was faced down by the elders and sub-chiefs who boldly made it known to him that the paramount chief doesn’t need his gifts or any demonstration of respect from him.
As best as he could, the politician who was seated next to the Volta Regional chairman had no option but to wave goodbye and leave in peace.Â
A spokesman for Togbe Afede who later revealed why the gifts were rejected spoke ill of the politician and cited Mr. Agyapong’s “gross lack of respect “for the Chief and his tribalistic comment he made some years back inciting Ashantis against Gas and Ewes.Â
Some of those in attendance shouted “away” when the items were packed into the same vehicle which brought them.
