Former President Mahama’s Message On IMF Boss Is As Sharp As A Double-Edged Sword

A double-edged sword is used figuratively to mean anything that can cut both the person attacked and the attacker. Words that are described as double-edged also mean ”they applied no fear or favour”. Such words can affect individuals without discrimination.

On Thursday, 8th September 2022, former president John Dramani Mahama diplomatically sent a message to not only Ghanaians but the World, most especially the IMF Boss Madam Kristina Grigorieva.

The former President, as a distinguished diplomat, was not excited about comments by the IMF boss and so as a former president, he saw the need to tactfully and sensitively address the issue.

Former President John Mahama, in his message respectfully stated that he was excited to hear the IMF boss affirm her support to rescue the people of Ghana from the undeserving hardship.

Interestingly, the former president was also careful in correcting the IMF knowing that he may one day need the woman if he is fortunate to become the next president.

So the former president finally found a nice way to tell the IMF boss that what she said about Ghana was wrong. Readers can recall that the IMF boss told a journalist that “Ghana has been affected by exogenous factors but not bad policies”.

She is remembered to have praised the people of Ghana and indicated that ordinary Ghanaian citizens did not deserve the economic hardship confronting the country.

Did the former president expect the IMF Boss to publicly lambast the country for the implementation of ill-advised policies, mismanagement of covid funds, conflicts of interest, and unbridled levels of corruption?

Did the former President expect the IMF boss to affirm what the NDC have said about the dubious costs of closing the banks?

Would it have been right for the IMF Boss to disrespect President Nana Addo? Did the IMF boss mention how much loan or program has been approved for Ghana?

Does former President Mahama believe in diplomacy? How would former president John Mahama have felt if he was confronted during his presidency by the IMF boss for various blunders that he committed?

Well, even though former president John Mahama’s message on the IMF boss’s remarks was diplomatic, it was also heavily loaded with facts about Ghana that the world may not know.

Would this same message from former President Mahama haunt him if he luckily becomes the next president? Is former president Mahama’s message not too sharp as a double-edged sword?
