Chelsea signs new manager after sacking Tuchel. Everything there is to know.

Football has changed a lot over the years from mere entertainment to a grand business venture. One thing that remained unchanged however about the sport throughout these years is the passion it ignites. With every dribble, every through ball and every goal, igniting the passions of spectators like the gladiators of medieval Rome, football remains arguably the most followed sport of all time. England is no foreigner to the passions ignited by football. In fact, England’s football fans are widely regarded as the most spirited football fans one could think of. It it for this very reason that most English football club owners or presidents grow tired quickly of negative results on the field. Aside the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger who managed Manchester United for 26 years and Arsenal for 22 years respectively, managers of clubs within England are under the constant threat of losing their jobs even with relatively minimal negative results.

Chelsea Football Club, a club formed in 1905 which currently plays in England’s top tier league, has become one of the clubs where managers have to be in constant fear for their jobs. The club which saw great managers like Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Rafael Benitez, Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Di Matteo laid off following some few losses, has once again decided to part ways with their German tactician; Thomas Tuchel. The manager who led the English side to a Uefa Champion’s League trophy, a FIFA club world cup trophy and a Uefa Supercup trophy wins, was let go in September 2022 following a slow start to the season. In his stead, the club has appointed Graham Potter to take charge of the dressing room.

Graham was born on the 20th of May 1975 in Solihull, West Midlands. He played football as a left-back for 13 years for clubs like Southampton and Shrewbury town and also represented England on a single occasion at the under-21 level.

As a manager, Potter kicked off his career in 2011 with Ostersund in Sweden and continued at Swansea City in England in 2018 before moving to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2019. As a coach, Graham Potter won three (3) trophies with Ostersund and also won three (3) individuals awards in Sweden where his coaching career begun.

Today, Graham Potter fills the great boots of his predecessors and one can but wonder if he would either be another Steven Gerard and Quique Setien to whom much was given yet same could not be said of results, or an Arsene Wenger and Alex Fergurson who came as “unworthy” lads but left gallantly with their names forever etched in the very bowels of the history of football.

As the club makes preparation to properly unveil the new manager, the news continue to receive mixed reactions from football fans around the world as people wonder if Graham is special enough to take the job of one of the greatest tacticians the club ever had.
