NDC forces Asantes out of executive roles – Director of Communication at NPP

According to Denis Kwakwa, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communication Director, the Ashanti Region National Democratic Congress (NDC) is forcing Asantes out of executive posts in the party.

The NPP alleges in a press conference in Kumasi that recent developments in the NDC in the region have confirmed the views of some party fanatics.

Mr. Kwakwa believes that, despite his NPP affiliation, this is not an issue that should be playing out in the country’s political because the 1992 constitution prohibits any form of ethnic discrimination.

Accra-based journalist Bobie Ansah said on Facebook that the NDC is discriminating against Asantes in their ongoing membership registration drive, which concluded in the area last week.

“Some major figures in the opposition NDC have had reason to complain about the region’s tribally discriminatory attitude toward supporters considered to be of Asante descent.”

“Persons with Asante names were denied the option to register their membership, while others encountered significant difficulties in registering for the party’s membership cards.”

He claimed that the NPP’s observations in the Ashanti area were supported by Appiah Stadium, a close colleague of former President John Dramani Mahama, who expressed similar sentiments on Accra-based radio station Asempa FM.

“A few weeks ago, Mr. Frank Kwaku Appiah, better known as Appiah Stadium, on Asempa FM had grounds to complain that one of the contenders for the Ashanti Regional Communication Officer position, Asafo Agyie, is being discriminated against because he is an Asante.”

“We are not surprised at all by this development since the NDC, as we all know, has always used tribalism as a primary instrument in its political bidding in its many years of existence.”

“What more worries the minds of well-meaning individuals in the Ashanti region is how the NDC has repeatedly outraged and treated the Ashanti region as a kingdom and its population,” he remarked.

“You may recall that following the 2016 general elections, then-sitting President and now-former President John Mahama branded Ashantis as ingrates who wouldn’t even enjoy gold-paved roads. He answered, “This was not an insult, but the utmost contempt someone could offer to the Sikadwa.”

The NPP’s media director is urging the NDC in Ashanti Region to show some respect to Asante, the region that delivers them more votes than the rest of their strongholds combined.

“One would think that following the 2020 elections, the NDC would have thanked its people in the Ashanti region and Asantes for accumulating over 600,000 votes, second only to Greater Accra.”

“Their so-called strongholds, like the Volta and northern regions, could not match Ashanti in their nearly successful political ruse that they hoped to convey to the people of Ghana through the 2020 general elections.” Yet they show considerable intolerance and hostility toward descendants of the large Ashanti land.”
