Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a key member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the founder of the Danquah Institute (DI), has asserted that illegal immigrants sneak into the UK despite popular opinion that such countries have better methods for spotting such individuals.
Mr. Otchere-words Darko’s come in the wake of reports that Chinese national Aisha Huang, who was deported from Ghana for unlawful mining, has returned and been arrested for the same offense.
The Galamsey Queen has been charged with two crimes: mining without a permit and selling and purchasing minerals without a valid license.
She was held with three others: Johng Li Hua, Huang Jei, and Huaid Hai Hun.
Following her detention, Mr. Otchere-Darko exhorted Ghanaians in a Facebook post to vote for a party with a program that promises to erect a wall across Ghana’s borders to prohibit unlawful immigration from other nations.
“Why do we enjoy over-bashing ourselves?” Even on the island of Britain, illegal immigrants ( black Africans) sneak in. She’s been apprehended and detained; our system worked. “Vote for a 2024 manifesto that promises you a border wall,” the DI founder wrote.
In May 2017, Aisha Huang rose to prominence in the galamsey industry, earning her the moniker Galamsey Queen.
She was charged with three counts of conducting small-scale mining operations in violation of Section 99 (1) of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), providing mining support services in violation of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), and illegally employing foreign nationals in violation of the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573).
While the case was still underway, the government abruptly ended it and deported her in December 2018, sparking concerns among many concerned residents.
She is thought to have returned to the country via the Togo border to continue the illicit operation for which she was arrested and deported.
