Clement Opoku-Kyeremateng, financial and political analyst has reacted to the recent ‘brouhaha’ in the country about how a Chinese woman got arrested for engaging in illegal mining activities in the country.
Speaking on Oyerepa FM this morning, Clement Opoku-Kyeremateng clearly revealed that government cannot prosecute Aisha Huang. According to him, Ghana does not have the commanding power to punish Aisha Huang. He also made it clear that Ghana’s debt to China alone can set Aisha Huang free.
“Aisha Huang cannot be prosecuted in Ghana unless the Chinese government denies her citizenship. The Chinese government will come for her because Ghana does not have any powers. Ghana’s debt to China alone will free her” he stated.
Aside this, he made it clear that even if Aisha Huang is being prosecuted, it won’t solve the issues on galamsey. He added that a lot of people are involved in illegal mining activities in the country and for that matter, the arrest of Aisha Huang won’t be of any importance in the fight against illegal mining activities.
“There are over a thousand Ghanaians who are engaged in galamsey to destroy our water bodies. So what damage can one person, Aisha, do? How can jailing Aisha help us solve our game issues? Ghana’s government does not even have the grounds to punish her. We don’t have the command authority” he added.

Aisha Huang is a 47 year old Chinese woman who is currently in Ghana. She got arrested by the government after reports revealed that she was involved in illegal mining activities in the country. In 2019, she was deported back to China.
Three years down the line, Aisha Huang has found her way back into the country again to do her illegal mining. Government officials have arrested her again and placed behind bars. She is expected to appear before the court on 14th September, 2022. According to reports, Aisha Huang also posses a Ghana Card which makes her a Ghanaian as well.
