For several years and counting, the Auditor General kept unearthing the rot that has engulfed public servants and other high office holders in this “small” and “poor nation”, Ghana.
Recently, the Auditor General, Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, in it’s report has recorded some huge sums of money that has gone wasted as a result of irregularities in the public sector.
A whooping sums of Ghana Cedis 9,313,612.42 have been captured by the Auditor General as the public irregularities in 2021/2022.
These losses were gathered under over twelve itemized lists. With each purported to cause several amount of Ghana Cedis.
More to the shocking news, private legal practitioner, Mr. Samson Lardy Ayenini claimed on his Facebook page that, from 2016 to 2021 only, it was reported that Ghana had lost another whooping sums of 48 billion Ghana Cedis to either stolen or misused by public sector workers.
Very shocking to hear as a Ghanaian, right?
Well, all these monies go wasted or one way or the other in the pockets of just a handful of people claiming to be doing the country good.
Just some few months into 2022, in 2021, Mr. Ayenini claimed again that, Ghana has lost about 17 billion Ghana Cedis in the same irregularities report revealed.
Wondering why this kept coming unconcerned? None can tell.
Meanwhile, the government of Ghana, led by his Excellency, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo has managed to put on the neck of the poor Ghanaians an “electronic levy” seeking to generate 6 billion Ghana Cedis to fund the numerous projects the government is embarking on.
A situation nobody can wrap their head around. Why?
Many would ask who can a government allow over 65 billion Ghana Cedis to go uncounted for and still chase only 6 billion Ghana Cedis from E-levy?
As if it’s easy, even the estimated 6 billion target of the initial monies to be recoup from the mobile taxation has been drastically reduced.
