What Country Is This? They’ve Completed School But Are Still In Their Houses– IEA Director

Dr. John Kwakye, the director of research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), has called the discovery that 1,000 recently qualified doctors are unemployed ridiculous. “This is insane? I hear newly-qualified teachers also have to pay bribes of up to GHc7,000 to be recruited. What country is this? Wherein lie our priorities?” Tweeted him.

His remarks follow those of Dr. Sandaare Sebastian, the member of parliament for Dafiama/Bussie/Issa, who raised concern over the government’s failure to hire more than 1,000 new doctors who completed their housemanship almost a year ago but have since remained at home.

Ghanaian government does not take steps to hire the doctors, Dr. Sandaare warned that they would be forced to leave the country’s borders in pursuit of greener pastures.

Ghanaian government does not take steps to hire the doctors, Dr. Sandaare warned that they would be forced to leave the country’s borders in pursuit of greener pastures. He declared that this is an unacceptable situation.

The member of the Health Committee of Parliament told journalists in Accra on Thursday, September 1, “They finish school and they are in the houses, so it is just to draw attention to government that it is not acceptable that as a country, we say that we cannot employ our doctors who have come out of training.”

The Medical and Dental Council has completed a three-day program to examine 50 years of medical training in this country, the speaker continued. Even after 50 years of the Medical and Dental Council, there are still unemployed doctors.
