Residents in Cape Coast, the Central Regional Capital of Ghana have shared mix ideas on the new 27.15% increment in electricity tarifs which was announced by the Public Utility and Regulatory Commission (PURC) on Agust 15th, 2022 which took effect September 1st, 2022.
This increment has got the attention of Cape Coasters as they have complained bitterly about how they are struggling with the Country’s economy and now coming to face a new challenge with the increment of electricity tariffs.
Speaking in an interview with Darling FM’s Angel TV reporter, Anaafi Kokooto some of the traders at Abura Market explained that, the are even struggling with how to sell their good and services since the inflation rate climbed to 31.7% last month.
“Even prices of shaving sticks, matches, tomatoes, oranges among others perishable and non perishable goods have all climbed up”.

Therefore, they appealed to the government to consider them with the prices of Electricity tariffs since we are not in normal time
