Speaking to the correspondent in an interview Jackson Elvis Etuah who is the Managing Director of the Modern Film & Entertainment Network observed that it is now time that government should wake up and silence whoever involved in the galamsey without fear or favor.
Mr Etuah alleged that the chiefs are the brain behind the illegal mining practices of the country yet they don’t acknowledge their mistakes.
They allegedly pushed blames on the government who through the laws of the country approves rights of mining documents to prospective miners to operate in the country.
Thousands of illegal miners are operating in our lands the forest reserves of whom they were given the authorities by the chiefs who have no rights to do so but for some reasons known to themselves they remain unshakable, Jackson Elvis Etuah alleged.
The musician noted that what tends to be a worrying factor is the fact that the chiefs allegedly claims ownership of the lands, they fail to use part of the proceeds from the land sold to illegal miners to develop their communities.
Another issues are that there are times where the chiefs allegedly disassociate themselves from having sold portions of lands to illegal miners when police causes arrest on galamsey sites.
But Jackson Elvis Etuah wanted to know if a stranger could just pack baggages to somebody’s town and use force to enter a land and illegally mine.
What definition should be used to qualify that chief Jackson Elvis Etuah urged readers to form their own judgement.
Chiefs are allegedly actively involved in galamsey but out of alleged wealth creation coupled with power corruption they hardly recognize the negative impact their attitudes would pose in the society.
On the politicians Jackson Elvis Etuah alleged that apart the mining concessions some of them have lawfully acquired they still operate back door illegal mining.
He stressed that instead of them to use their legislative powers to save the country’s natural resources they allegedly condone and connive with some equally alleged guilty chiefs to do the undoable.
According to the musician if care is not taken Ghana will loose everything from the nature and the results would be that the country would have to import water which in his view would be a bad news for the country.
Jackson Elvis Etuah said it is based on the aforementioned points points and many more hence he is calling on the government to as a matter of national interest find avenues to jail one of the prominent chiefs and a politician to serve as an example to scare others from practicing galamsey in the country.
