Assemblyman Calls For Support To Construct Access Roads To Farming Communities In His Electoral Area

The Assembly Member for Asedja Akwadum electoral area in the Fanteakwa South District in the eastern region, Hon. Baah Sangmor is appealing to the general public, government, NGO’s and all well meaning Ghanaians near and far to come to his aid as he intends constructing a 15km road to the farming communities in his electoral area.

According to the Assembly member, there are about 8 dispersed communities in his electoral area and their major problem is access roads.

Speaking to Obido of Radio 1, the determined Assembly member revealed the discomforts the citizenry go through before transporting their farm produce from the farm to the market.

However, through communal labour, these communities have managed to do their part but are now financially handicapped and therefore seeks support to continue and probably complete what they have started.

“I have 8 communities in my electoral area and they are all farming communities. We struggle to send our farm produce to the market because of the nature of roads. Farmers are forced to carry the loads on their heads for about 45 to 1 hour before they get a motorable road. So we are trying to get access roads but unable to afford the cost. I want to use this platform to appeal to all for support so that we can have access roads to the communities” – Hon. Sangmor said.

He added that their perishables sometimes go waste and that is making farming not attractive to the citizenry especially the youth.

Residents there are known for cultivating cassava, Plantain, Yam, Cocoyam, tomatoes, onions, cabbage, Pepper and Cocoa.

Hon. Sangmor further said the farmers get a little from the produce after harvesting since chunk of their profits go into labour.
