A total of 97 Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) trainees have been hired by the Chinese firm Sinostone Bioethanol Manufacturing Ltd. (SBML) in the Volta Region’s North Tongu Constituency.
The job was saved by the timely interventions of the area’s Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
It comes as the NABCO program for beneficiaries expires today, September 1, 2022, with all beneficiaries expected to leave their positions as a result.
Mr. Ablakwa stated that as a result of the expiration, he negotiated with the management of the Chinese firm Sinostone Bioethanol Manufacturing Limited (SBML) and successfully secured the jobs.
“As the government ends NaBCo today, September 1, 2022, I am pleased to announce that I have successfully negotiated with the Chinese management of Sinostone Bioethanol Manufacturing Ltd. (SBML), which is located in my beloved North Tongu, to immediately employ all 97 NaBCo beneficiaries.”
“With our best efforts, we will continue to look out for each other,” the lawmaker stated.
On Monday, July 25, 2022, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta announced that the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) program will end on Thursday, September 1, 2022.
“Mr. Speaker, our iconic National Builders Corps (NABCO) program, which was originally scheduled to run for three years but was extended for an additional year, will be completed by September 1, 2022,” he said. The program, which involved 100,000 young graduates, prepared thousands of them for the workforce. “We have invested approximately GHC2.2 billion so far,” he said in Parliament when presenting the mid-year budget review.
The Minister urged the program’s trainees to take advantage of the government’s YouStart initiative.
“As they exit the program, the current cohort is encouraged to take advantage of the You Start Initiative and other existing programs in our effort to build an entrepreneurial nation.”
“The government’s policy is to assist dynamic young entrepreneurs in gaining access to training and funding to build their businesses and become a significant pool of job providers for their fellow young people,” Ofori-Atta added.
