The Deputy National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edem Agbana, has lamented how NHIA could provide sponsorship for football clubs while owing many several Service Providers.
According to Edem, his issue is that the NHIA depends largely on taxes to run the authority. The scheme is suffocating in debts. Most of the district offices of the NHIA are poorly resourced, some don’t even have basic equipments to work.Â
“The scheme is owing many service providers, many of them threatening to withdraw their services.Â
“How can you be surviving on taxes, and use proceeds to sponsor a private like a football club ? How can a scheme suffocating financially give sponsorship to a privately owned football club?” He quizzed.
According to Edem Agbana it simply doesn’t make sense, and no leader worth his salt takes such terrible management decisions.
Background
Edems comment comes as a background to announcement made by National Health Insurance Scheme that they are delighted to give 5 years sponsorship to Nsoatreman Football Club.
The scheme also revealed that, they have sponsored 4 new promoted football clubs.
Edem in a post asked that is it because Nsoatreman FC is owned by Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, NPP MP for Sunyani West, and Employment Minister.
